Norwich Tech Health Tech Students Win Awards at Annual BrianDance

April 10, 2015

The senior Health Technology students at Norwich Technical High School participated in the 11th Annual Brain Dance Awards sponsored by the Institute of Living/Hartford Hospital (IOL) in Hartford, CT.  The goal of the Brain Dance Awards is to stamp out the stigma associated with mental illness and develop a more tolerant and realistic perspective towards people with psychiatric problems.

This year, there were approximately 170 submissions from high schools around the state. Four students from the Health Technology program received awards.  All of the health technology seniors will travel to the IOL on Thursday April 24, 2014 where the winners will present their projects, tour the facility and attend the afternoon Grand Rounds Lecture.

Kayla Davis and Daniel Dudar placed 1st in the Academic category for their research project on “Postpartum Depression”.  They submitted both a research poster and a written research paper on this topic.  Kayla stated, “I was looking at prom dresses online when I got the e-mail that I had won; it was a huge shock!” Daniel added, “I was in EMT class when I got the news, I was extremely happy. It is awesome to see that teamwork can be so successful!”

Paige LaFlamme and Sarah Smith entered the Mixed Media category and received 1st place for their movie presentation about two individuals who experience social phobia.  Paige states, “I didn’t think I was actually going to get it, I was so excited when I found out, I ran to my mom to tell her!”

Sarah relates “I became overwhelmed. I was excited to know that all our hard work paid off!”

Twelve of the health technology students attended the BrainDance Award Ceremony at the IOL in Hartford on the 24th of April!
