Norwich Tech Talk: Volleyball Coach Named Assistant of Year

Norwich Technical High School Assistant Girls Volleyball coach Debbie Krodel was named 2017 Connecticut High School Coach Association Girls Volleyball Assistant Coach of the Year. She received a plaque at Aqua Turf. Attending was her husband, Head Coach Tim Krodel, and her family
Sock collection
Heating ventilation air conditioning donated 258 socks to the Socktober sock collection and received a pizza party. The trades collected 704 pairs of socks to be donated to Safe Futures. Sophomore Zach Sangermano gave 258 pairs of socks. In addition, the main office donated 89 pairs.
Plumbers
On Nov. 15, 11th- and 12th-grade plumbers were certified by Wardflex Manufacturing. Ward is a leading maker and distributor of gas piping components used in thousands of installations worldwide, including such American icons as New York City’s Freedom Tower.
SkillsUSA
Our SkillsUSA chapter served a Thanksgiving dinner to 50 guests from Norwich Housing Authority and Rose Senior Center on Nov. 16. The guests received a holiday ornament made by our SkillsUSA chapter. Thanks goes to chef Bentley and his crew, Amaya Mendez, Daisy Palmisano, Tyler Beauchemin and Riley Riewerts. Mrs. Hill, hairdressing instructor, volunteered to serve along with SkillsUSA members Stephanie Rivera, Alea Thigpen, Maddie Gifford, Ashley Czech, Loriana Nicolas, Alexis Rodriguez, Lizbeth Reyes and Jasmine Glaspie. The next endeavor is selling Christmas wreaths. Club advisers are marketing teacher Laura Velez and electrical teacher Paul Godere.
Loriana expressed, “It was honestly a great opportunity to serve the community and I would not trade it for anything else. I look forward to next year.”
Rivera, chapter president, explained, “I enjoyed seeing the smiles of the guests which makes us proud of our commitment to the community.”
Culinary student Carlos Negron Cruz, a junior, cooked stuffed peppers. He said, “It was nice to cook for lovely people and letting them enjoy the holiday.”
Music
Chorus students caroled at the Otis Library Craft Fair and Light Up City Hall in Norwich this season. The annual Winter Concert was on Thursday.
Student Council’s holiday party
Our holiday party will be Dec. 22. Students can pick an outside activity such as roller skating, bowling, Niantic Cinema’s “Star Wars” or a building activity such as older movies, basketball or board games.
Toys for Tots
New unwrapped toys were donated to marketing for children ages 1 month to 18 years. The shop with the most toys collected will win 10 extra points on field day. Gift cards are always welcome. The Toys for Tots drive is powered by Norwich Tech Distributive Education Clubs of America Chapter.
HairdressingNow through January, Norwich Tech’s Sensations Salon is selling any shampoo and conditioner at Buy one, Get one half off, or buy a shampoo and conditioner and receive a styling product for free. Students can recommend a hair type.
Interact Club
Interact Club is holding a toiletry drive to help the victims of the hurricanes in Puerto Rico through Dec. 21.
